What is your greatest struggle right now?
I have been in the world of arts for almost two decades now. Performance had been the primary force driving my learning and creative exploration for most of these years. Currently, I am questioning the role of an artiste in the society and the purpose of art itself. I am looking at ways in which art, especially dance can bring a sense of awareness of the self and the world that we are a part of. When dance is largely seen as a source of entertainment, it becomes extremely challenging to create work that is thought-provoking and delves into issues that plague us as individuals of this world. In a world where you need to create pretty art to sustain a living, the struggle has been to reiterate my agency as an artiste and engage with art that facilitates introspection and also a sense of empathy with the world around us.
